APPropos!

APPropos! is an exceptional group of musicians, comprised of members of the music faculty of Appalachian State University's highly acclaimed School of Music. APPropos! offers the opportunity to hear and see opera, operetta and song literature performed in an informaI atmosphere, emphasizing the importance of the audience's understanding of all that happens on stage during a performance. The members of this ensemble are professional musicians who have the combined experience of several hundred performances. They are educators, as well, who take the knowledge of their art and apply it to their performances. In turn, the experiences they gain are passed on to their students, who may use those insights in the development of their own abilities.

The ensemble was formed in the fall of 1995, and since that time has made numerous appearances across the state. The performances of APPropos! have been received with such enthusiasm that the group has been invited on two occasions to participate in the acclaimed music festival, "An Appalachian Summer" in Boone, North Carolina - two celebrated performances, the first in July 1996, and most recently, July 1999.

The various programs performed by APPropos! include song literature, opera, folk songs and musical theater. The ensemble is always on the search for new and exciting repertoire. APPropos! has recently recorded a CD featuring songs composed by the Dean of the School of Music, William Harbinson.
