CHORAL AUDITIONS FALL 2009

Freshmen and transfer students: Friday, August 21, 1:00-5:00 PM
Sophomores: Sunday, August 23, 1:00-5:00 PM
Juniors: Monday, August 24, 10:00 AM-1:00 PM (and possibly some additional times in the afternoon)
Seniors and graduate students: Tuesday, August 25, 10:00 AM-Noon and 1:00-5:00 PM.

The audition process for Chamber Singers and University Singers is as follows:

• Vocalization (listening to the quality of your voice and how high and low you sing)
• Tonal memory (singing back short melodies played on the piano)
• Sight singing (4-8 measure melodies that you sing by yourself without help from the piano)
• Sing a cut from "Dan-u-el" by Kirke Mechem. Download the file by clicking here. Be prepared to sing from the 3rd measure of p. 16 through the 1st measure, bottom of p. 19.

If you are selected for University Singers, you will need to have the following dates available for the fall semester:

• Friday evening, August 28 and Saturday morning, August 29 - possible choir retreat (details are not yet confirmed)
• Thursday evening, October 8 and Friday afternoon, October 9 (3:00-5:00) - guest clinician
• Friday, November 6 (concert at 8:00) and Sunday, November 8 (trip to Winston-Salem to perform at NCMEA)
• Friday, December 4 (afternoon and evening) - Holiday Concert

Sign-up sheets for audition times are posted on rm. 217 of the Broyhill Music Center.
