Biography/Resume Dr. Harold McKinney is Professor of Music at Appalachian State University where he teaches trombone, philosophy of music and a summer institute in expressive arts. In addition, he teaches and performs every summer at the Windswept Music Workshop in Liberty, Missouri. He has taught at the arts center of Kalavrita, Greece and has served as an Academic Fellow for The European Graduate School in Saas Fee, Switzerland. Dr. McKinney has performed at the International Harvest Symposium, the International Brass Symposium, and the International Expressive Arts Therapy Conference. Dr. McKinney holds the Doctor of Arts and Master of Music degrees from the University of Northern Colorado and Certification in Creative Motion. He is a member of the Appalachian Expressive Arts Collective. Coauthor of Expressive Arts Therapy, Creative Process in Art and Life, Dr. McKinney is recorded with Swiss pianist Paolo Knill on the compact disk Saas Fee in Appalachian, which has been used for expressive arts activities in Switzerland, Germany, Israel, Canada, and the U.S. He is also recorded with “Gypsy Harvest” a postmodern hybrid improvisatory trio that also includes Knill and Appalachian percussionist Robert Falvo on the compact disk Syncopated Synapse.
