Where will you be in December?
The Hayes School of Music of Appalachian State University is presenting the Hayes Young Artist Competition.
College-bound high school vocalists as well as instrumentalists will be competing. Required Vocal Repertory: An Italian art song
from the 16th to the 19th Century; an art song written in English from the Elizabethan period through the 21st Century;
an art song written in a foreign language (German, French, Italian, Spanish, etc.).
How will you benefit?
The winner will receive a Hayes Music Scholarship of $20,000 ($5,000 per year, renewable for up to 4 years) to the
Appalachian State University School of Music. Finalists who intend to major in performance will receive a minimum of a Hodgkins
Scholarship to the Appalachian State University School of Music ($1,500 per year, renewable for up to 4 years).

You must request an application from the Hayes School of Music or download

No applications will be accepted by FAX or E-mail.
Eligibility is limited to high school students in grade 12 at the time of the competition.
All competition performances must be accompanied. Entrants are strongly encouraged
to provide an accompanist. Hayes School of Music accompanists will be available for a
fee (include a copy of the accompaniment(s) with your application).
