Dr. Bill Jones, trumpet.
Dr. Bill Jones is a native of Knoxville, Tennessee and is a graduate of the University of Tennessee (B.M.; studies with Horace Little and Ed Niedens), the Juilliard School (M.M.; studies with William Vacchiano), and the University of Kentucky (D.M.A.; studies with Terry Everson). webpage

Mr. Joe F. Phelps, trumpet.
Mr. Joe Phelps is Professor of Trumpet with degrees from Indiana University and Eastern Kentucky University. He has also studied at the University of Oklahoma, The University of North Texas, and The University of Miami (FL).webpage

Dr. Karen Robertson, horn.
Dr. Karen Robertson joined the School of Music faculty in 1995. She holds the Master of Music degree in horn performance from the Cincinnati Conservatoryand the Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Missouri, Kansas City.

C. Robert Clark holds the Master of Music degree from Appalachian and has studied further at the Peabody Conservatory of Music.

 


The Brass Audition

The brass audition consists of three parts: (1) a prepared piece of the student's choice, (2) scales and arpeggios; and (3) sightreading. The prepared piece should be from the standard literature for the instrument and should demonstrate the student's highest level of performance.


Scholarships

Music scholarships are granted by the School of Music after a prospective student has successfully completed an audition/interview and has been accepted for admission to the University. The amount of scholarship support is determined by talent and financial need. Scholarships usually are awarded for a specific period of time (e.g., four academic years, one academic year, one semester).
